Who doesn’t want soft, smooth skin with that sought-after youthful glow?
In today’s society, it seems that having great skin is not only considered attractive but also a sign of good health. Trust us when we say that you deserve to look and feel your best! That’s why we love exfoliation and its ability to help your skin look amazing.
There’s a lot to consider when adding a new product to your skincare regimen. Which product is right for your skin? How often should you use it? Exfoliation is no different – it’s important to understand the different options available as well as how often you should exfoliate.
How your skin works
First, a quick science lesson. Skin is the body’s largest organ. Among other functions, it helps protect your insides from things like moisture, cold weather, the sun’s rays, germs, and toxic substances. The epidermis is the outermost layer of your skin, and it constantly renews itself. New cells are made in the lower layers of the epidermis, and about every four weeks, these cells move to the surface of the skin. These cells replace the dead skin cells that have fallen off.[i]
What is exfoliation?
Have you ever dealt with flaky skin, clogged pores, or dry patches? These conditions could be caused by dead skin cells that haven’t completely shed. If you struggle with these, fear not: exfoliation can be a helpful way to get rid of these cells.[ii]
The process of removing dead skin cells from the outer layer of your skin is called exfoliation.[iii] Exfoliation can be done using a variety of exfoliators, including scrubs, peels, towels and more.
Benefits of exfoliation
Exfoliating your skin can help renew your skin’s surface and alleviate common skin issues.[iv] It can cause your skin to appear brighter, as well as enhance your skin’s absorption of topical skincare products such as acne medicine, self-tanners, and moisturizers, making these products more effective. Exfoliating regularly may also help prevent breakouts since it helps prevent clogged pores and, over time, exfoliating can increase collagen production, which promotes skin elasticity and vibrancy.[v]
How to exfoliate
If you’re looking to exfoliate at home, there are two main methods to choose from: mechanical exfoliation, which includes using a tool to physically remove the dead skin cells; and chemical exfoliation, which involves using chemicals like alpha and beta hydroxy acids to gently dissolve dead skin cells.[vi]
Here’s a look at some specific products you can use to exfoliate your skin to get that glow:
Cloth - ExfoliMATE® 2.0 POCKET: ExfoliMATE 2.0 Pocket is an exfoliating shower cloth designed with a special weave pattern for a smoothing microdermabrasion effect. It sloughs away dead skin cells and bacteria to help restore your youthful glow. It also helps prep your skin to promote the absorption of acne, sun and tanning treatments by clearing clogged follicles for that ultimate squeaky clean feeling. Featuring customer-favorite dimensions and a pocket, ExfoliMATE 2.0 Pocket reaches your nooks and crannies to buff and brighten your skin from head to toe.
Scrub - BambuBrasion: BambuBrasion is our booty detox scrub and smoothing exfoliator that leaves your rear feeling soft and smooth. When used over time, this natural exfoliator may help your skin become stronger, firmer and more even-toned. It may also help banish cellulite and Keratosis Pilaris, often referred to as skin bumps or chicken skin. It’s made with ingredients like organic aloe vera gel, bamboo extract, and tea while leaving out parabens, sulfate, and phthalates.
Peel - Aha! Moment® Champagne Body Peel: Our champagne body peel combines the incredible power of wineberry superfruit and alpha hydroxy acid to lift away dull, dead cells and reveal luxuriously soft, glowing skin for an Aha! Moment like you’ve never had before. First, alpha hydroxy acids from the fruit act on your skin as the peel dry while skin binds with the polymers as you lift away dead cells. For long-lasting luxury, antioxidants and moisturizers linger even after rinsing to keep your skin soft and supple.
Lotion - Butt Acne Clearing Lotion: Designed to rid your rear of acne-like bumps, this lotion’s formula of alpha-hydroxy acids exfoliates and moisturizes skin to give you a clear, baby-soft bottom.
How often should you exfoliate?
The ideal frequency of exfoliation depends mainly on two things: your skin type and the exfoliation method you’re using. Typically, the more aggressive the exfoliation method is, the less often it should be done. For people with skin that’s sensitive, dry or acne-prone, it may be preferable to use a washcloth and mild chemical exfoliator. Meanwhile, stronger chemical treatments or mechanical exfoliation may be best for people with oily, thicker skin.[vii]
As for Green Heart Labs products, in particular, BambuBrasion is best if used 1-2 times per week, with three days in-between applications. Aha! Moment can be used 1-3 times weekly or as needed. Butt Acne Clearing Lotion can be applied morning and night. What to do after you exfoliate
Since exfoliation helps to clear clogged pores, post-exfoliation is a great time to use your favorite topical skincare treatments! This could include acne medicine, self-tanners, lotions, and more. It’s important to note that exfoliating can be drying, so be sure to soothe your skin with moisturizer to keep it healthy and hydrated.[viii] We all want to make a good impression, and good skin is the ultimate sign of health. While your face gets most of the attention since everyone can see it, we want you to look and feel great from head to toe! To make this a reality, it’s worth considering if adding exfoliation to your skincare routine is right for you.
Luckily, there are a variety of products available that you can use to exfoliate your skin! We encourage you to give these products a try and find which one works best for your skin type. After all, you deserve to feel comfortable and confident in your own skin!
